Social and Emotional Learning

“Most people are mirrors, reflecting the moods and emotions of the times; few are windows, bringing light to bear on the dark corners where troubles fester. The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows.” – Sydney J. Harris

Social and Emotional Learning is a part of our specials rotation as an elective class in the Primary. I visit each class every other week for a 40 minute SEL lesson.

For the 2024-2025  school year I will be utilizing the Kindness in the Classroom®  curriculum from the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation. Kindness in the Classroom® is a Tier 1 evidenced-based social emotional learning curriculum designed to create a culture of kindness. "All Kindness in the Classroom® lesson plans have been mapped to the five CASEL Core Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Competencies, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Health Education Standards (NHES), the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards, when applicable, and the national Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts & Literacy, Mathematics, History/Social Studies, and Science & Technical Subjects." I believe our school counseling program and our Primary students have and will continue to greatly benefit from the implementation of this curriculum. If you would like to learn more about Kindness in the Classroom®, it's effectiveness, or related research please visit the Random Acts of Kindness website
